Southern Caribbean Cruises
The Southern Caribbean is the least travelled to region of the Caribbean however offers an array of cultural diversity within the region. In just a one week cruise you can experience salsa dancing in the Dominican Republic, eat French dishes in St. Barts, explore a little of Dutch history and architecture in Curacao and Aruba as well as have some English fish and chips in Barbados. Aruba, Curacao and Bonaire are known as the "ABC Islands" and truly are island gems. Search for Southern Caribbean cruises here.
The Southern Caribbean begs you to travel deeper into the Caribbean on a journey less traveled and discover unique native plant and animal species as well as exotic landscapes brimming with natural, unspoiled beauty. Remote islands like Dominica, with its lush rainforests, waterfalls, rare birds and wildlife along with the spice island of Grenada, which is one of the world's major producers of nutmeg, mace, clove, cinnamon and cocoa are destinations you will discover the further south you go into the Caribbean.

For the most part, San Juan, Puerto Rico is the jumping-off port for the Southern Caribbean with weeklong cruise itineraries. Longer itineraries are sometimes offered from Miami, Fort Lauderdale and occasionally from other U.S. cities along the East Coast.
While most large cruise lines, Carnival, Norwegian, and Royal Caribbean, offer Southern Caribbean cruises, the smaller ships of Celebrity, Seabourn, Crystal, Silversea and Regent Seven Seas can travel to the smaller ports in more remote islands, such as Dominica, St. Maarten, Barbados, Antigua, Martinique and St. Lucia.
Like the other regions of the Caribbean, the Southern Caribbean offers many shore excursions at the various ports of call. Some popular excursions include: the Atlantis Submarine Expedition in Barbados, a jet ski or aquaboat snorkel tour in Curacao, a half day Jeep safari in Dominica, an aerial tram and rainforest tour on St. Lucia, river tubing safari on Dominica, Carlisle Bay shipwreck snorkel adventure in Barbados, St. Lucia rainforest walk and many others.

Just like all the other regions of the Caribbean, temperatures are warm year-round to enjoy. And just like those other areas hurrican season runs from June through November. Statistically speaking, the chances that your particular voyage is going to be affected by a hurricane are very slim. You have to remember, cruise lines have been operating in the Caribbean for many, many years and have, by virtue of their long history and experience, specific hurricane/tropical storm emergency response plans in place. Today, these ships are outfitted with state-of-the-art satellites as well as having a designated bridge officer to  monitor the weather, not only during the hurricane season, but always. Additionally, cruise lines back up their onboard personnel with an expanded weather staff at their respective headquarters.

So, take a cruise to the Southern Caribbean to experience a diversity of European cultures with an island twist and enjoy each and every port.
